Did you know that our brain receives 11 million bits of information every second? That’s a lot of decisions to make! And guess how many of those decisions are conscious? Only 40! Our brain is smart! And lazy: in order to act fast and not freeze every second, it makes shortcuts known as a cognitive schema, something our brains use to help us organize and interpret information as quickly as possible. And what happens when we assume and make snap decisions? We tend to make mistakes, stereotype, categorize and put people into boxes, influenced by our society and the media… which could result in favouring someone who is similar to you, making costly business decisions or rejecting an amazing candidate!

Everyone has a bias, as long as you have a brain! In this Unconscious Bias Conversation, we will explore different biases like affinity, halo effect, gender, confirmation, group think, anchoring and many others: and explore how we can train our brain to slow down, reflect and remove biases from our decision-making process. We will also discuss how to call out biases in others and change procedures and team agreements that are biased by design.
